Tarzan is in Full "Swing", with a Little Help From LP

By Steve Nigohosian

The New York premier of Disney's new animatedTarzan movie would not have been complete without LP endorsers Phil Collins and Richie Gajate-Garcia (along with the rest of the band) performing the music Collins wrote for the motion picture. Immediately following the preview screening of the movie, attendees were then treated to an invite-only concert by the band at New York's Roseland Ballroom, featuring some songs from the movie as well as a string of Collins' hits.

Richie Gajate-Garcia has a full set up of LP gear especially for this gig, to support the music which draws from African rhythms sprinkled with Collins' keen sense of pop and rock and roll. Among the LP gear Garcia uses are two LP djembes (a LP Galaxy model and a LP model) which are uniquely positioned on an angle on either side of him, timbales, and assorted blocks, bells, and "toys". Throughout the entire show, Richie colored the songs with sounds that evoked both the hidden danger of the jungle, as well as the many emotions felt by the movie's characters.

Because he spends most of his time singing in front of the band (rather than behind the drums), Collins uses his trusty LP Softshake to help keep time. When not in use, it is mounted to the side of his microphone stand, ready for action.

LP is proud to be a part of the music of Tarzan, as well as be the instrument of choice for top players like Richie Gajate-Garcia and Phil Collins.
