LP artist KURT RASMUSSEN DOING 'SWIMMINGLY' IN
|
|
![]() Cirque du Soleil's' percussionist Kurt Rasmussen, LP Artist Relations Manager Steve Nigohosian, Publicist for Cirque du Soleil Brigitte Belanger-Warner. Described by the show's producers as "being inspired by the concept of infinity and the elegance of its pure form, 'O', phonetically speaking, is the French word for water (spelled 'eau')." One of the most spectacular features of "O", in addition to the international cast of 81 artists performing in, on, and above water with tremendous agility and dexterity, is the 1.5 million-gallon pool which measures 150-by-100 feet. The pool, which required three years of intense study and testing, and was built especially for the production, is the setting for visually-stunning acrobatics and props. Of course, the show would not be complete without the proper musical accompaniment from Kurt and the rest of the orchestra. Kurt's array of eclectic LP instruments -- as well as his natural ability of knowing what to play and when to play it -- ads to the mystique and enjoyment of the acrobatics' motions. "In addition to using LP congas and timbales, I have incorporated some of the more esoteric percussion instruments and 'toys' into the parts I play," reveals Kurt. "It is an honor to be a part of such a wonderful production, and work alongside of people who take their craft very seriously." Kurt has been a member of Cirque du Soleil's "O" production for three-and-a-half years and LP is proud to be a part of his percussion setup. |
