It seemed natural, organic—the communal thing to do. No question,
it was time for LP to create a presence on MySpace.com, the web equivalent
of the traditional town square. Just as master hand drummers used their
instruments to summon citizens for a meeting, the congas are beginning
to draw visitors to LP’s recently created: www.myspace.com/lpcongas
And conga slaps are apt to be the first thing the visitor encounters
at the LP MySpace site—drums and Salsa music from the greats.
The music will change regularly, providing a festive backdrop to for
virtual gatherings, uniting those currently involved with percussion
with those intrigued by the possibilities. On myspace.com, joining
LP’s inner circle is as easy as registering and becoming a friend
of LP. As one recent young MySpace visitor put it, drummers who start
with LP stay with LP. You start at the top, you proudly stay there!
At www.myspace.com/lpcongas, those who might not otherwise visit a
percussion website will discover the lore, excitement, and charismatic
sounds that seduced LP founder
Martin Cohen into the world of Salsa
and Latin Jazz in the late fifties. Of course, forty-three years ago
when he began fashioning tacked bongos and bells in his garage, the
Internet was only a twinkle in scientists’ eyes. Now it is a
conduit to information, sounds, videos—all components of LP’s
newest MySpace site.
Visitors will discover that LP’s MySpace spot is a work in progress.
Audio and video clips will change. Blogs will grow and take musical
tangents. Friends will drop by and contribute, some with anecdotes,
some with news of upcoming Latin gigs, and some with helpful performance
tips. Like any other community, LP’s Space will enjoy frequent
visits from some and occasional visit from others. Some will pause
a while; others will link to numerous related addresses. All will enjoy
the contests and prizes.
LP is pleased to join the popular MySpace and to extend you a cordial
welcome to drop in. Remember that address:
